In 1997 I was diagnosed with IGA nephropathy. At that time I was told that there really was no cure, only treatments for the symptoms. I was told then that someday down the road I would probably need a transplant. "Down the road" came on November 1st, 2011. I was in for surgery December 6th, to insert a catheter for peritoneal dialysis and began my dialysis on January 2, 2012. I had my work up for a transplant during the month of January and was officially placed on "The List" on February 3, 2012. Currently my wife and sister are going through testing to see if they are matches. My job now is to stay as healthy as I can and don't look back as the only thing that is important is the future.

Welcome Larry, and no, you're not alone. Your story mimics mine except I was diagnosed in 1986 and started dialysis in August of 2011. Hope we can help you through this stuff.

I am glad you found this site. People here can answer questions you don't know you have right now, and they will understand any rant you may post. Read the old posts and the new ones, it will educate you in so many ways. I sometimes know more now than my techs do at dialysis. Good luck.
