Hi folks. I had my kidney failure 12/2007. Was on dialysis for about a year and my kidneys started to function. Now I'm back on dialysis since October and getting my evaluation for my transplant through the VA. I'm also considering the in home PD. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi Vince and :welcomesign;

So your kidneys rebounded for about 3 years? I suspect that may well generate a few questions.

So glad you joined, and if it's dialysis advice you are looking for this is the place to get it. Not from me, though, as dialysis is thankfully not something I have loads of experience with, but if you ever have any transplant questions I may be of more use there.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Vince, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  I guess at least you got off dialysis for a little while.  Hope you get your transplant soon.  Yeah, PD is a good way to go.

Stay tuned to IHD.

Welcome, Vince!  What a  blow it must have been to be able to come off dialysis for almost three years and then have your kidneys fail again.  Still, you sound positive and have come to the right place for encouragement and information and even the odd chuckle here and there.  All the best to you on your journey...

Welcome, Vince!

 :welcomesign;

It sounds like you are looking into your options. Another option you might consider is home hemo....

There are a couple of ways to do this, including nocturnal that leaves your days free!  :2thumbsup;

You'll be able to get lots of information here. Plus support when you need it.

Hello, Vince, and welcome to IHD.

It sounds very interesting that your kidneys started functioning again after a year on Dialysis.
I would like to know what made your kidneys function again ?

Did it happen “naturally” or did you receive a special treatment to “get them going” ?

I would also like to know what kind of kidneys disease are you suffering from ?
I am sorry that you are back on Dialysis and I do wish you good luck with the transplant-evaluation.

Best wishes from Kristina.

Hi Vince and welcome!   :welcomesign;  Glad to have you here.

I am care partner to my hubby who was also diagnosed in 2007 and has been on D ever since.  He was on PD for about 18 mos and we would both tell you that it is by far the best option IF it is an option for you.  Though there are lots of ways to do most things, the most important thing about PD is to never relax your standards when it comes to cleanliness.  Currently he is doing home hemo with NxStage and we both wish he could still do PD.

My advice would be to learn all you can about all modalities and choose the one that seems to fit you and your lifestyle the best.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome! @ Kristina, I have ESRD. They started working enough to come off dialysis on their own. The doctors did said it was a possibility they might start working on their own, but also told me they would probably fail again. I keep a positive attitude, but it gets hard to do at times.
I look forward to chatting with you all.
