tinnitus

I just started having a noise in my ears (tinnitus). It is in sink with my heart (palsatile), it actually sounds exactly like the bruit heard in my access. It comes in goes. If it continues I will have it checked out, but I'm wondering if this is possibily something that people on dialysis gets or could it be something else? I did have a permacath placed in the neck a few days ago but it seems like it started before that, I really can't remember.

Sully, I have had tinnitis for almost 20 years now.  You get use to the ringing.  Mine was caused by working in a factory with loud machinery.  I still hear fine, but ringing will always be there.
Interesting how it may effect one who is on D though!

 Sullidog I've had tinnitis for years now and have gotten used to the ringing. I asked my liver transplant team about it and they told me not to use any of the over the counter remedies due to the fact that they aren't FDA approved and may interact negatively with my imunno-suppressants. Lately I've been able to hear my heart beating in my ears too just as you described. Then last month I had a fistula done and can hear the thrill in my ears too. The combination of all of this drives me crazy, even to the point of not being able to sleep. I'm going to bring this up to the transplant team again and see if there isn't something that can be done. I'm not on dialysis yet so that can't be the reason.

I had this same problem about a year ago. When lying down I could hear my heart beating, but I noticed it worsened or lessened depending on how I turned my head.
I went to see an ENT doctor because I read a lot of scary possibilities on the internet, of what it could be. He ordered an MRI of my brain and carotid arteries and they found nothing wrong.  It eventually went away on its own, and I haven't had the problem again since then.

I don't know *what* my hearing issue is ..... but sometimes i hear a 'phantom' cell phone ringing ... maybe it's tinnitus .... it's definitely annoying

I have had tinnitus since my years in the military (50+ years ago), and that includes the phamton telephone and cell phone ring.  I only have 50% hearing now.  If I press firmly on my cheekbone, my hearing disappears altogether.  If I squeeze my eyes shut, same thing.  I think my fenders have fallen off and I need chrome rims.

My hearing is below what it should be for someone my age, although I don't need a hearing aid yet, probably due to meds. ( furusemide is one med. that can damage hearing) and I also suffer from tinnitus (- as do plenty of healthy people).  Sometimes I hear a fluttering, and sometimes when I'm in bed I think that I can hear the TV on downstairs, even though it isn't.
