Fourth edition of The Handbook of Dialysis released

Posted on: 01/17/2007 - Renal Business Today

PHILADELHIA--The Handbook of Dialysis, which is used by doctors and nurses caring for kidney disease patients, has been revised by three nephrologists and is being published by medical book publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

The fourth edition of the Handbook was revised by Drs. John Daugirdas, Todd Ind and Peter Blake. The updated book includes new evidence and recently published guidelines that reflect new advances in the field of kidney disease.

The book, first published in 1988, includes new chapters on how to treat kidney disease before a patient needs dialysis, how to set up daily or nocturnal dialysis and the principles and practical points of using hemodialfiltration and hemofiltration instead of hemodialysis. The new edition also details suggested drug doses in patients and includes patient case examples to illustrate the ideas being presented.

The book has kept its regular layout, which allows doctors and nurses to fit the Handbook in their jacket pockets while working. In addition, the book includes a number of Web site references in the kidney disease field.
