Can believe my dialysis center has only one TV for every two chairs.  I see what they charge my insurance company.  Its not like they cant afford some more TV's. And as you can well imagine there are occasional disputes.

I always end up having to share with a BULLY.  We have to watch what they want or they throw a fit.  And its always something I simply cant stand like Jerry Springer or soap operas.  No offense if those are your favorites but I can stand to watch them at all.

One lady now comes on about 30 minutes before I am finished.  The first thing she does is change the channel.  At her first session she did that.  I said "Excuse me but I was watching that movie.  It will be over in 20 minutes and I will be done".  She gave me an evil stare and went back to her game show.

Well, well.  Our remotes are tied to the wall by a cord.  I later learned that her remote was defective.  You could go up but not down. To get to channel 6 from channel 7 you had to go up through 60 channels. So I started a new game.  She sits and immediately changes from 5 to 6.  My remote is hidden from view, and I switch to 7.  She thinks she has hit the up button too many times and goes all the way around back to 6.  I immediately switch to 7 again.  We do this until she gives up, or until she yells for a tech to come over.  If she calls for a tech I lay my remote on the floor and slide it out of reach. Oh its not me, I cant even reach the remote.  She has not figured out I am behind this.  (I hope she is not a member of IHD!!).

Its a fun game that amuses me for the last 30 minutes of my sessions.

Evil man!! Remind me to never get on your bad side!!!  :rofl;

Seriously though this just reflects some people's poor manners and is so pathetic/annoying. I mean how hard is it to ask "Excuse me are you watching this? I would like to watch X is that OK?" and act according to the answer. It's just TV people!!! If it was me I probably would have just said "sure, that's fine" - because I'm that sort of guy but people without manners just bug me so much... and if they can't get what they want they throw a fit??? Please... are we back in the sandpit at school?

Of course this is why I take a laptop to dialysis(or ipod, or radio) and provide my own entertainment and if someone else wants to change the TV channel they can because I don't care as I almost never watch it (most of our chairs have their own TV but there are some that share, or are in between TV's - so I can understand the situation absolutely - though we don't have any bullies in our unit - at least not yet!).

What I have to deal with is older ethnic people yelling at eachother (hard of hearing) in their native tongue - which is OK since it gives them something to do - but sometimes it does seep into my headphones and I amaze myself that they can chat on about nothing for FIVE HOURS!!!  :rofl;

Getting the heck out of town.

« Reply #5 on: August 08, 2009, 10:18:01 AM »

This is way too funny.

Yesterday a new to me tech came and called out a really weird name.  Some of us debated who he wanted and noone went in.   Eventually I walked in to see what the holdup was (as they are most usuallly early or at least on time).  He asked me name.  I said "Crawford".  He said oh, diidn't you hear me out their calling you.

The people used to irritate me but I'm getting to the point that is funny.  There a one nice lady named Annabayna (or something like that).  I call her Anna Bananna.  She pretends to get angry with me in her native lanuguage (whatever it is) and then starts to laugh.

That was definitely naughty of you!

In my unit, we have one TV to every chair.  We recently got cable and remotes for each TV.   But guess what?  Four of the remotes have disappeared!!!  I feel badly because everyone of us is a suspect now.

Why would you need remotes.  Ours are on little arms mounted behind the chairs and you can pull them right up to you...

I bet the bullly lady and bub have lots of fun together.

Our TVs are just like that.  You can pull them up to you, but you can't change the channel on them. You can only turn on/off, and do the volume or mute.  There is a box in the roof that controls the channels (cable).  That is why we need remotes.

In our unit all TV's are on mute with wireless headphones available for those who are really watching the TV so the noise doesn't annoy other people. Sometimes the nurses will put mute off to watch the news or an exciting sports game that a few people are interested in, but in general it's a pretty quiet unit TV wise.

Why would people steal remotes??? that just makes no sense to me.. Go figure.. *sigh*

My solution a long time ago to sharing tv's - 50mg benedryl and 12.5mg phenergan as soon as I get hooked up. I'm out cold for the entire 4 hours. Patients around me can watch all the jerry springer their hearts desire!

Do centers not have their own TVs? My center has a TV for every patient, hooked up to a crane, so one can move it out of the way. They're also touch screen, and one can change from TV to Internet to games. The TV is DirecTV, also.

But I do remember back in 1990, the center I attended had one TV for 5 or 6 folks. You think your center would have upgraded by now!
