I'm David 55 yo single male from Indiana. Long time diabetic type 2 diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease in October 2010. Now it looks like stage 5 after 3 weeks in the hospital and starting hemo. I have a tunneling catheter and a brand new fistula installed. I really don't know what to think about all this except that I really hate dialysis. It makes me so weak and the thought of those big bicycle spoke sized needles scares the heck out of me.
I'm on SSI disability due to a left BKA in April 2009 and walk, sort of, with a prosthesis. Just applied for Medicaid. Buried my father, who had Alzheimer's, last November. My mother is in a nursing home due to a stroke. I was the caregiver for both of them. Miss them terribly.
On to other things ... I like going to the movies, eating breakfast at Denny's, exploring with my computer and learning about technology. I'm sort of a geek. I'd be totally lost without the internet. I like video games on my PS3 but haven't played much in a while. It's a little hard for me to see it because I'm blind in one eye. That's why we have two, right? Gives me an excuse for typos, too. Oh well, I need to step away from the computer and clean my apartment and take some meds. Not to mention watch that movie I downloaded from the Playstation Network last night.

Welcome Dave, you'll find lots great people here full of real information. Keep scouring this site and you will find answers to most of your questions.
There are options to the needles of hemodialysis. Check into PD (peritoneal dialysis).
Sorry to hear about your parents, that must be difficult to deal with.

Hi, Dave.
My mom died over 10 years ago and I STILL miss her! I'm sorry that you have had to deal with so much in such a short time.
I'm glad you found us, though.

Welcome Dave! Glad you found IHD. My husband has ESRD also, due to Diabeties and high B/P. He was diagnosed in 2004 suddenly, and had a BKA last year! He has pretty much done everything Dialysis. Currently doing NxStage at home 5 days a week.
Can you get a transplant? If not, you might check into PD or Home Hemo, but first go in-center till you get used to what is going on with you! Have them D. you till you start feeling better.
I know this whole things is overwhelming right now, but trust me, it will get better for you! Just relax and take it one day at a time! And we are here for you if you need anything! Feel free to ask anything! Ive always been told that the DUMPEST questions every asked is the one never asked!
Just don't absorb all this alone, it is too much all at once!
Before you decide on anything, ask us, cause we have all been through what you are fixing to go through! We can offer our advise from experience, Ok?
Please let us know how you are coming along, and again welcome and looking forward to your input!
God Bless,
lmunchkin
