Greetings from Parma, OH

This is Ranman from Parma, OH, a suburb of Cleveland.  I am a transplant from a Nebraka farm after meeting my wife who lived in the big city all her life.  My mother-in-law is why I'm here.  I'll call her "Dot" here because a lot of her friends call her that.  (I've read enough of your posts in only three days, since stumbling upon IHD, to know many of you in this adoptive family will want to be her friend too.)  She is 87 years young, with a long history of diabetes and has finally entered the harsh world of dialysis since her birthday in March.  She had fought off the dialysis routine as long as she possibly could, but eventually the toxins in her system were crying out for attention.

After reading one of the posts about high phosphorus causing itching, that explained a lot about her round of itching a while back.

I was laid off from a manufacturing job in 2009, so as her son-in-law, I have been able to be with her throughout her dialysis sessions.  Some sessions have been so trying for her emotionally that she has credited me with "saving her life" on more than one occasion.  Jerking a gentle soul out of her independent homelife and throwing her into a chair that induces the most excruciating rump knots by the third hour is pure torture at times.  She's trying to figure out why she is crying so much.  She also cried from the pain of a hepatitis shot she got just the other day.  The mental anguish of what you all endure is amazing to me. 

I've rambled a bit, so I'll just sign off for now.

Oh Ranman, what an awesome Angel you are.  You are good to her and that is so admirable!  Just keep coming to this site and ask questions. Introduce her to this site, maybe she will get some strength from others who have same thing!

Ranman bless your heart and welcome to IHD.  Hang in there with her.  But, remember she is 87 years old/young.  So, her body is a little more fragile than someone at 50.  It gives me peace to know I can stop this at any time.  That sometimes gives a person peace to know they are not forced to do this.  It makes me take it one more day.  Things should get better.
