Going through life tied to a chair!

« on: May 22, 2011, 10:01:05 AM »

Crud!  I have noticed a spot on my fistula where there is a scab but it is thin and fragile.  It could blow.  I've had this before.  I have put a folded piece of gauze on it with silk tape.  I have emailed my vascular surgeon just in case.  I'm stressed.  I'll have them look at it at dialysis tonight.  They may not think it is safe to use.

Well, it has been 2 years since I've had to have a fistula revision.  That is a pretty good run for me.

This is like watching a ticking bomb!    :P

Noticing this kind of a thing on a Sunday sucks. I am glad you have dialysis tonight so it an be assessed and watched. I hope you can dialyze!

Best wishes for an easy and quick resolution.

fistulas don't need a lot of revisions, however a graft needs more then a fistula, in my experience though it depends on the surgeon, the v surgeon I use to go to had to do one every month, while my new one did a major one and after 3 months it's still going strong!

Thanks you guys!    :grouphug;  Just having someone to talk to helps.

Dialysis went well and the nurse said it looks like a skin tare more than a hole.  So, I've made an appointment with my V. Surgeon today so he can just look at it and see what he thinks.

I hope I just was stressed over nothing.....     :waving;

I'm glad you're getting someone to have a proper look at it.  A story told by a girl on another discussion board:   She found, like a little blood blister on her fistula, she says, she showed it to the nurses who put a bandage on it and sent her home.  And on the Monday morning when she took the bandage off at home, she says it was like an explosion.  Literally burst open, with massive blood loss.  They rang the ambulance, towel after towel to mop up the blood, she woke up after surgry to have it repaired - woke up on dialysis the next day.  Very exciting.

Good to know it doesn't appear to be serious, but it's worth the follow up.
