We have just had a week in Lake Garda and had dialysis three times at the centre in Arco. We booked through a specialist dialysis holiday co. in the UK which made it all very easy. We arrived on the Monday morning and I was put on a machine. Although the English speaking nurse didnt arrive unitl 0700 and I was there at 0645 I managed to get on no problems. My wife was with my but wasnt allowed to stay in the ward so had to sit in reception downstairs - be warned there is nothing in reception other than a very big plant and a couple of chairs.
The pictures of the unit on the web are not accurate. It is on the main road into Arco and there is certainly no garden nearby.
A taxi from Riva was 10 euros but I got the bus back which was 1 euro. We did look around Arco one day after dialysis which is worth doing.
All in all I would go back and this has given me the confidence to go abroad again and have dialysis.
The nurses were friendly and there were no problems so I cant ask for more than that ;0)

That's really awesome! I hear a lot of horror stories through my hospital of those who have travelled extensively and run into problems. It's nice to hear a positive experience!   :2thumbsup;    :thumbup;

Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.

Although I envy those who travel abroad and love to hear the experiences, I don't fly, but can drive.  Plan on another 2 week trip here in one more week.  This time we are FLA bound.  I really wish we could have hooked up in Las Vegas, but it is jus too long a drive!  But those going to Vegas, we will be thinking about you on the beach!!!!!    :yahoo;  You guys have one on me.   :beer1;

That is another advantage to having NxStage and having a "Van" to load supplies in.  I love it!!!!!! :bandance;

We didnt pay for the dialysis as if you are in the EU and have an E111 card it is free due to a reciprical agreement.

Sounds great! I have not yet tested guest dialysis but I am looking forward to go on a trip and try it. Lake Garda would be lovely to visit.
