Hi everyone. Just a quick question...Has anyone that's on the Baxter cycler for PD ever had one of their bags disconnect from the machine in the middle of the night? Mine just did and now I'm worried about getting peritonitis....Any help would be appreciated.

Ooops!...
I'd say the risk is small, BUT you can't afford to take a chance with peretonitis.... Please contacy your unit straight away for advice... Chances are they'll give you some prophylactic antibiotics just in case...
My mum has had three bouts of peretonitis... I's not a pretty sight, and is certainly nothing to be trifled with.....

Wow, I've never heard of that happening, but I agree with Darth. Best not to take a chance. Contact your clinic and get their input.

That is very unusual, I would do as Darth says "get in touch with your unit" We have had them jumping off their shelves, (we use a metal computer desk) how can a 5000ltr bag do that, that is really scary, we have also had drain bags throwing them selves over the room. I reckon we have a FRIEND who comes in the night. whooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I don't do PD, but from what I've heard, I would also recommend calling the clinic.  Good luck |

Diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease at age 19.
Renal Failure at age 38 (2010) came about 2 hrs close to dying. Central line put in an emergency.
Began dialysis on Aug 15, 2010.
Creatine @ time of dialysis: 27. I almost died.

I had a drain bag come unhooked in the middle of the night once. What a mess!!
I would call your clinic and see what they say.

I went for a procedure and they unhooked the patient line. The part you attach to the fill line. Well i was half asleep when the nurse put a new line on me. She didnt tighten it. That night Karen woke me up saying the bed is soaking. I thought i wet the bed? would have been a first. Then i looked down and saw the line had come apart our new temperpedic bed was drenched. we were drenched. So i clamped the line and that morning went to the clinic. They gave me antibiotics just in case. All was fine.
So i would get antibiotics play it safe. And as a side note. Every week or so tighten the patient part of the pd connection coming from your stomach to the connection thing that you open and close.
Also for the drain collection bag. I put that in a plastic container i bought at Kmart for about $5. Just in case it leaks....

I had leakage from the drain bag one night. I had forgotten to close one of the clamps. What a dumb ass. Then I called the nurse, she said don't worry about it.  But you should definitly call the nurse. |

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the great posts...It seems that I might have disconnected the bag in the middle of the night while I was asleep. No peritonitis thought (thankfully)....All is well now except I have to go tomorrow to get my pd catheter "straightened out." Apparently it's all curled up instead of being straight....I'm sure all will go well. Thanks |
