Hi. My name is Gene Smith in Plano, TX. My wife began the dialysis journey in January, '11 with PD catheter & fistula (backup) operation. She began manual PD in Feb and moved onto automated cycler on 4 Mar. We are beginning to get settled into the routine.
I came upon this forum while looking how other PD patients were handling movements about the house while attached to the cycler. I've seen a few videos & pictures of carts on other websites. Just trying to develop a good setup for my wife. While speaking with our PD nurse, it seems this is a common issue for their patients.

Welcome Gene. I am on in center HD but there are many here that can give you good advice for PD.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr. 2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Hi, Gene and wife, and welcome to the group. When I was on PD I used one extension for the patient line and could get as far as my kitchen and den to watch tv. I also used two drain line extensions so the fluid could go into the toilet. Worked like a charm. Ask your PD nurse for extensions. Glad you happened to find us!

Hi Gene and welcome! My hubby also used to be on the cycler and we found the extensions to be great. He could make it to the living room or get up and pretty much move around at will. Your wife is lucky to have a partner so willing to learn and help.
