I've been checking this forum out for a while but never signed up.  My name is mike and I have esrd stemming from years of dealing with wegner's granulomatosis.  I'm only 29 years old and am starting on hemo in the next few days.  A bit of history....I was diagnosed with wegner's granulomatosis when I was 12 and spent most of my teenage years in and out of the hospital for various complications (kidney failure, lung bleeds/collapse, arthritis, etc...) Luckily I was only on dialysis for a short period when I was 14 and have been recovering basically ever since.  My doctor's always told me this day would come, eventually dialysis would return and they'd have to look at transplant options.  Unfortunately none of my family is the same blood type as me so hopefully I can do a paired exchange in the future.  For now, I've got a nice fistula which I will test on tuesday, hopefully it works.

I can't wait to hear more about Tuesday.  I will be thinking of you then, so if you feel like it, do please come back and tell us how the day went, OK?  We're all cheering you on.

well day 1 is done and honestly it was easier than I expected.  They started me with a 16 gauge sharp to start my buttonhole and I really was surprised that it hurt less than an iv.  The fistula worked fine for the 3 and a half hour run.  I thought I would feel tired or something but really just felt like I always do throughout the whole thing.  The only problem was at the beginning when my blood pressure dropped quickly right when it started but it was fine after about 5 minutes.  All in all, could have been a lot worse.  I think round two will be more interesting

Great to read that your first run via your new fistula was all okay. All the best for many more problem free runs.
