Hello, Henry,

Having read what you have said about this computer-program,
I wonder how I could benefit from such a program because I have never gone that far.

I am also an amateur musician and I am learning pieces for the Fortepiano,
& I record this is with a microphone connected to a Sony-unit that records unto a CD.
 
This is as far as I have gone. I use it as a teaching-aid because I have no teacher
& learn on my own, whenever I feel well enough, & to find out how I develop,
I listen to my recordings and compare with pianists/harpists etc.

Sometimes it is a little tricky, for example at the moment I learn Händels “Air” in “Saul”,
transcribed by Muzio Clementi in his 1801 “Introduction to the Art of playing on the Pianoforte”
& I try very hard to find out when/where it was played to get a better idea,
& have not yet been successful to find anyone who has played it on a keyboard-instrument.

As I write this I am wondering whether such a complicated editing-program
is suitable for just recording my music, maybe this is something for the future
when I am a bit more accomplished.

I've used Audacity in the past for many things. Got it in 2004, version 2.1.1, I'm not recording or mastering any more, but you're right, it's a good, free program, and I would recommend it to any out there who play around with their music.

Mind you, my system is a bit ancient, but it is very simple to handle and I have no problems with it.
Thanks for doing a search for Händels “Air” in “Saul”, I appreciate it, I could not find it either.
I could only find singing as well, but it was a different melody of the Fortepiano-score I have.
