I am really getting into the symbolism and stuff in poetry and i realized, in most great works, such as The Divine Comedy and the story of Orpheus, all these heros that descend into hell, the afterlife or byond are always poets.  Any thoughts on this?

I don't think it's changed much - writers write what they know, so they write about someone who writes.  Still true in popular fiction today.  Really, how many of Stephen King's protagonists were writers?  Quite a few.

"Asbestos Gelos"  (As-bes-tos yay-lohs) Greek. Literally, "fireproof laughter".  A term used by Homer for invincible laughter in the face of death and mortality.

That's true. When I was a teenager, I used to write about former dialysis patients, because that's what I was then.  It's easy to write about how mundane their lives are, because we live those lives.  It also makes it easy to figure out what exactly could turn their lives upside down.  That's actually the fun part. *G*
