Really nothing much I can say except to add to everyone's expressions of sorrow and support for you. You've had such a long battle and he's resting peacefully now. I am glad the end was peaceful for you both.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Knowing that it is coming does not help to ease the pain at all does it. Greateful to God that his passing was peaceful.

I'm so sorry, Jo Ann. How wonderful that you shared forty years together; you must have some lovely (and much treasured) memories. Thinking of you and your family.

JoAnn, I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you must feel and I have no words of my own to offer you. But here is something I read at my grandmother's funeral; I hope it may bring you even a smidge of comfort.
WHAT IS DYING?
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then some one at my side says: "There! She's gone."
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her; and just at the moment when some one at my side says,
"There! She's gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "There she comes!"
And that is dying.

I like what DesertDancer said. It took me a long time, but one day maybe this year, I discovered that my Mum is with me again, she died in 2004.

I am so sorry Mizar to read about the passing of your dear husband. I have not been on the site in months so sorry for the delay. You were a great friend to me when I lost John. I wish there was a space on the site where widowers could come and talk about life that does go on. I know it is very early days for you, but even after 10 months I just wish I could have John back. Not one day goes by without thinking of him.
My prayers are with you Yvonne

Yvonne, Mizar and others,
Please know that we always welcome discussion and offer support even after your loved one has passed. Come back anytime, threads are probably most easily found in the caregiver section, but also may be posted in General Discussion. You are still part of the family. Thanks.
