PD Protocols - who do we listen to?

Yup, some of them like to get out that cookie cutter - roll all the patients flat and make them look exactly the same.  They get really confused by the ones who stand up and walk away from the rolling pin.  Then they omigod have to think about what to do differently to treat them.

I can’t comment about the Dialysis yet because I am still fighting
to keep my kidneys functioning for as long as possible.

I always look forward reading your comments because
they encourage patients to look at their Dialysis and circumstance individually
and not follow a pattern where “all Dialysis patients fit in the same pigeon-hole”.

Henry, I'm with you on the questoning. I am on PD, overnight cycler, and have just had a hernia repair. I'm small: just 5 foot and 53kgs and have enlarged kidneys from PKD. When I go back on PD in two weeks, I'm arguing for smaller fills, as I am NEVER getting another hernia. I want to try smaller fills. I do 4 X 1600ml over 9 hours and want to go $ X 1400ml and see if I stay well on that. Wish me luck!

First of all, the picture of Henry P. Snicklesnorter crocheting lace doilies sent me into gales of laughter.  Thanks for that, Henry.  I've been on PD for 7 years, and like you have done it in numerous places.  I didn't get my first peritonitis until year 5, and it was due to a ruptured hernia I didn't even know I had.  I say go with your heart and what works for you.  As I tell the doc, there is optimum and adequate.  I do adequate, and it seems to work for me.
