Hello again

Hi everyone,

It has been a while since I have been back here, so I thought I would reintroduce myself. I am a 30 year old with PKD, Diabetes, and whammo, now it has advanced to  ESRD. I had worked full tiime as a reporter and editor of my local paper, but that just got to be too much, so I decided to take a part time job as a church secretary and coordinator. I just needed to relieve myself of some of the stress I was having on the job. The moment I stepped away from my old job, I was scared, but I know deep down it was the right choice for me. God opened up this opportunity just for me. Suddently, the sky was a lot prettier, and no longer dreaded getting up in the morning. I have been incredibly blessed; while I am still ESRD, I have been able to hold off dialysis, but the way I had been feelling lately, my body was telling me to stop pushing it too much. I wil miss reporting and the people, but I will not miss having to meet all of those deadlines and having to hear my editor bicker at me. She just doesn't get it; this disease I have is not going away, and I have to take care of myself. If it were up to her, I would continue my full time job and continue working the overloaded schedule I was working. You have no idea what it is like working all day and then late into the evening and feeling tired all the time. Something just had to give. So, I gave up my stressful job for a less stressful one. Now my biggest concern is getting a health insurance plan. I am probably going to pay for my Cobra for a couple a months, but then I am going to have to figure out something else. Oh the joy of kidney failure. Anyway, I do feel that a weight has been lifted from me. Now I can concentrate on what is important to me.

Hi Katie and welcome back.  It sounds like your job change was the right thing to do.  I hope you can find a health care program that isn't going to take every penny you make.

Yes, sounds like you made the right choice. It's well known that higher BP's caused by stress are no good for failing kidneys, so reducing that stress was probably a good thing - just hoping you don't create more stress trying to get that medical insurance - so good luck with that.
