My name (on-line) is Shaymon but most people call me Shay, either is good for me. I have polycystic kidney disease and am  now at stage 5 CKD with a gfr of 9.9. which means that dialysis is just round the corner for me. I'm due to have a fistula created in a couple of weeks , then we see where it goes from here.

I stumbled across this site by accident and have been a regular visitor for several weeks now. It is really interesting to hear real life experiences and op ions rather than those being spoon fed by the professionals.

I wish you all well.

Hi Shay and welcome to IHD.  Glad you stumbled in but sorry you had to join the CKD club.  Folks on here will certainly give you the scoop, advice, support or whatever you need.   I sure hope all goes well with your fistula and beginning dialysis and look forward to seeing you posting.   :welcomesign;

G'day Shay & Welcome to IHD. I also have a friend that calls herself Shay, short for Shereen (no not sure how that links up, but anyway)....

I'm sure it's a daunting time for you what with fistula surgery coming up and then the prospect of dialysis. Hopefully we can help you along the way. This place is great because the medicos can only tell you so much - with few and far exceptions none of them have been through this or really know what it is like, how you feel etc, so hopefully our experiences and combined wisdom (such as it is!) can help you get a better idea of what you're facing and what to expect, and hopefully to be able to face it with understanding and a sense that YOU are in control of your life and your treatments - and not them.

Welcome to the group, Shay.  I've always said the professionals only know book learning.  They haven't been there, done that like we have.  Glad you joined!
