I can't remember how I found this site, but fortunately I remembered the name. I started dialysis two years ago (2 years as of yesterday). I became an active member on the transplant list around March of this year. I think this site is a fantastic idea and I plan to spend a lot of time here. I go to a dialysis unit at the UCSD Hospital in Hillcrest (San Diego). I believe UCSD is the only hospital in the San Diego area that has a unit. I think there are ten or twelve units in the immediate San Diego area. I am very pleased with the staff there and I would highly recommend this facility to a new patient. My treatments are pretty average; I go on tues-thur-sat in the afternoon and the actual treatment length (time on the machine) is 3 1/2 hours. The "doctor" (usually the same person) sees his patients every thursday.

Hi Sbrown, and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you remembered our name.  People think we are negative but only I am.  Everyone else is positive.  So if you don't have anything nice to say sit by me.   >:D 

San Diego is such a nice sunny place.  I may even like dialysis there.

Welcome SBrown glad you remembered this forum. Sounds like a great unit. Lucky if I see my neph every 2 months!

August 1980: Diagnosed with Familial Juvenile Hyperurecemic Nephropathy (FJHN)
8.22.10:   Began dialysis through central venous catheter
8.25.10:   AV fistula created
9.28.10:   Began training for Home Nocturnal Hemodialysis on a Fresenius Baby K
10.21.10: Began creating buttonholes with 15ga needles
11.13.10: Our first nocturnal home treatment!

Born with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease
1995 - AV Fistula placed
Dec 7, 1999 cadaver transplant saved me from childhood dialysis!
10 transplant years = spleenectomy, gall bladder removed, liver biopsy, bone marrow aspiration.
July 27, 2010 Started dialysis for the first time ever.
June 21, 2011 2nd kidney nonrelated living donor
September 2013 Liver Cancer tumor.
October 2013 Ablation of liver tumor.
Now scans every 3 months to watch for new tumors.
Now Status 7 on the wait list for a liver.
How about another decade of solid health?

Welcome!  I've visited San Diego one time and it was beautiful!  Loved the zoo!  So glad you remember the name of our site.  It's a great place to spend your free time.   :waving;  Oh, and congratulations on getting on "the list"!  I hope that call comes for you very soon.
