DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A son of Ohio-born humorist Erma Bombeck has become the third member of the family to receive a kidney transplant.
Bombeck died in 1996 at age 69 of complications following a kidney transplant. The younger of her two sons, Matt Bombeck, went home from a California hospital Nov. 17 with a new kidney donated by a family friend.
Earlier surgery gave older son Andy Bombeck a transplanted kidney from his wife.
The Dayton Daily News reports Erma Bombeck shared a hereditary polycystic kidney disease with her sons.
The author of books including "The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank" is buried in Dayton.
