Never happened before

This is new to me. I am on PD with Fresenius and was told that there are no drain lines available at present. On "back order'. Trouble is I have totally run out of drain lines and have enough manual bags for 4 days. As I take balanced bags, they are hard to get. The administrator said the back order will be available in five days or so. Going to bang on a few doors today to see what can be done. Simply not good enough.

I always used drainage bags.. I have a cat, and I figured that a drain line would be something he may want to play with.  As it was, I had a hard time keeping him off the heater on top of the machine..

Can't lift the drainage bags. My back simply gives way. Whenever I do a KTV, the nurses have to come to my place to take the drain bags off and into the drain. Getting desperate. Have enough manual bags for one more day. Then what do I do?

Can your local hospital help???...

I know that if we run out of anything, the Dialysis Nurse Specialist says to contact them for emergency supplies....

Do you have a local radio talk show???... It's a bit unusual, but in the circumstances, I'm sure they'd put out an appeal for you... Community Radio serving the community, etc!....

I believe there should be some sort of an agency or any person (s) who could collect unused or unwanted surplus of patients who cannot continue with PD. I myself was on PD for 2 months and found that my body did not like PD and so found I had to dispose of all my drain lines, bags etc., due to fears of contamination of supplies, which I found heart breaking. Now,  all these supplies were never opened, most still in the boxes or crates they were shipped in. I realize there would be a cost involved, and it would probably take lots of work to accomplish this task, but a person such as murf, who cannot obtain needed supplies, could alert this program, and needed supplies shipped, at no cost to the person (s) in need. I am sorry murf that you cant get hold of what you need, I hope there is some way you can.

Murf I know what you mean about the drain bags being heavy. In the UK we can have what they call a double drain bag.We have two bags that are connected by a y connector. My husband uses 3 x 5000 bags and 1 x 2000 every night The drain bags are huge in a morning. He has to clip them off and cut them to get them to the bath room. The tip our nurse gave him was to use a large strong black bag and drag them to the bath room one at a time. Feel like a cave man. If we run short of supplies we just have to ring our unit and fetch what we need.. We have the opposite thing to you, I had to complain that Baxter's have been delivering too much fluid. They ring up, we tell them what we need and they send what they want, crazy isn't it.

I had a hard time lifting the bags too.  They were almost bigger than me! *L*  I had an old computer chair that the back had fallen off of, so what I'd do is get a good grip on the bag, and lift it onto the chair, then push the chair into the bathroom, where I'd drain the bag in the bathtub.

I like the idea of putting them on a plastic bag, then dragging them to where they need to go

I've heard of people putting the bags onto a skateboard, and rolling them to the bathroom!...

The main trouble is that everybody is chasing drain bags. So in short supply everywhere. Maybe if they can''t get the drain lines from the States within a reasonable time, like two days time, they are going to have to open up centres and hospitals on off hours for HD.
