Darth
, do you ever get any assistance from your neighbours or from your community? Your church? I ask because here in the US, there have been some politicos who want to massively scale back government assistance to people like yourselves, claiming that such people should be able to rely on their communities for help. It's code for "We don't want to have to pay for you, so we're going to let God and your neighbours look after you instead." It reminds me of the debate and consequences of what happened in the UK not all that long ago..."Care in the Community", where they closed a lot of mental institutions and released mentally ill patients back into the community or back into the care of their families, all of whom didn't have either the financial resources or the experience to cope. Still, it left the taxpayer off the hook.

Hi All...
Thanks for the compliments!...
Not behave???... I'm such a quiet, shy, retiring, shrinking violet!!!!!..... Mum's another story, though!!!!!....
Moose... I'm involved in a charity, and my buddies in St Vincent de Paul are great... Neighbours are good about putting bins out, or shopping, etc....
You're right... Governments would like nothing better than to offload the responsibility to families, neighbours, friends, and let's face it, if it saved them money, they'd farm our loved ones out to Osama Bin Laden...
By looking after my mum myself, as I prefer to do, I'm saving the state at least €1,300 per WEEK!... And believe me, I remind them of that!....
Thing is, by NOT supporting Family Carers to care for their loved ones at home, it costs SO muc more!...
Love to all...

Darth,
They could not have picked a better "Carer of the Year" you are a great advocate for you and your Mom, as well as all carers. You stated the needs and requirements so clearly and in such a forward and honest manner.
Great advocate, carry on, only great thing can come of it.

So nice of you to come back from your busy press schedule to talk to us little people!
Seriously, you are doing a fabulous job with all this.
And my thought on let your neighbors help - what if they are all broke too? My family, friends and neighbors were glad to help. They could shovel the porch, run an errand, etc., but where were they supposed to get the kind of cash I needed for $2000 epo shots? There's help and then there's $HELP$!!!

I'm seeing a Trend, starting here, first the " little " News Clips, then the " Morning Show " next thing You Know, it's the " Noble Peace Prize "
Remember, You knew, " Me When " I forgot, You don't know Me.
