Lights on the fresenius 2008k

When I am at D I take a look at my light situated ontop of the machine. If it yellow I always ask the PCT why is the light on yellow. If she can't find out why then I ask for a more experienced PCT to figure it out. I feel I am getting a good cleaning when it is on green.

Does your machine alarm as well?  The only time our lights change from green to orange is when some thing is wrong !

The nurses at my unit told me the yellow light indicates a lower flow rate. They said it was common with catheter patients and indeed, everyone in my unit with a catheter (including me) always had the yellow light on. They said it would likely go to green once I started using my fistula, and I know that was the case for the other fistula patients in my unit.

That's only partially true.  An orange light indicates that your delivered KT/V is lower than the target.  In other words, your blood isn't getting cleaned as well as it should.  As your nurse says, this is usually caused by the lower flow rate that you get with most catheters.  Sometimes, they can improve your cleaning by letting you run a couple of extra minutes longer.

That's why I am always getting on their case whenever I see a yellow light. I'm also concerned when I see few other yellow lights around the room. I'll stop an experienced  PCT what I've noticed and most of the time they will go and check it out. Sometimes there is a new PCT and she has setup something minor wrong.  Maybe its one of those days where the patients are having a hard time and they have to set up the machine so they can have some amount of cleaning even if they have a yellow light. I've had that happened to many times during my years on D.

According to the manual, there are a few different settings for the "traffic lights." In my center, they appear to be on the setting where a yellow light indicates lower than expected Kt/V. Red always indicates an alarm.
