Hey guys found this website looks pretty cool... now to get to the story
Had kidney prombs all my life had my first transplant at the age of 13 lasted for about 6 yrs my father gave me his lost it due to many cases of rejection mostly cause of being such a young age an not knowing how important taking ur medicine is one of the biggest mistakes of my life but it is in the past now started dialysis at the age of 18 been on ever since i am now 23 ive had a few cases of fluid overload but for the past 4 years of my life ive been healthier then i have ever been before. Here in Jersey i am considered a "BABY" in my unit because of such a young age im like the only younger guy in my unit haha so also looking forward to talking to some young kids my age who know what it's like. Looking forward to getting to no everyone!!!!!!!

Hi Mike  :welcomesign; to IHD. It does seem like most kidney failure comes with old age. There are some Young folks here so you will make friends & perhaps along your journey you may meet up with them someday.

caregiver to husband Frank

bladder cancer 1994
renal failure April 2009 due to blocked right ureter. Left kidney 20% function
November 18 2009 surgery to remove right ureter.
April 3, 2010 removal bladder, prostrate, left kidney.
June 11, 2010 started Hemo @ hospital
July 2, 2010 Embolized right Kidney due to hemoraging of tumor
September 11, 2010 RIP my love

I'm 29 (well 30 next week -ahhh!!) so still kind of youngish!!

This is a great website and has helped me a lot over the last year. Hope to hear more about you.  :waving;

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Welcome to our community, Mike!  Sorry you had to deal with such a challenge at such a young age, but I am also feeling the strength of your spirit, and I know you will make it through! :cuddle;  You have chosen an excellent site.  In fact, it is more than just a site - it is a family  :grouphug;  so you have lots of aunts and uncles here!  Ths is just the place for information and support when you need them.  Just enjoy all this site has to offer.  And please keep posting so that we will know how you are doing.

Hi Mike and another big :welcomesign;
Renal failure so young is rough, but there are some other yunguns and you are cleverly flushing them out with your other thread.  Good idea!  My dear husband had his kidneys fail at 19, which is pretty old by your standards.  Mind you he's all grown up now (43). 
Post often, and let us know how you are doing.  People here will be able to help you in some way or another with almost anything, but more likely you'll have interesting things to say to other people's dilemmas too, by the looks of your CV.

wife of Gregory, who is the kidney patient: 
1986: kidney failure at 19 years old, cause unknown
PD for a year, in-centre haemo for 4 years
Transplant 1 lasted 21 years (Lucy: 1991 - 2012), failed due to Transplant glomerulopathy
5 weeks Haemo 2012
Transplant 2 (Maggie) installed Feb 13, 2013, returned to work June 17, 2013 average crea was 130, now is 140.
Infections in June / July, hospital 1-4 Aug for infections.

Over the years:  skin cancer; thyroidectomy, pneumonia; CMV; BK; 14 surgeries
Generally glossy and happy.
