For the past two weeks I have been drinking gatoraide after dialysis and it has made me feel really good because my legs feel like hell after dialysis. I have noticed that I am not restless afterwords and the cramping stops faster than if I had been drinking the same amount of water. If anyone has any tricks or post dialysis habit that might combat these symptoms I would like to hear it please. The gatoraide is working fine but it does have a lot of sugar in it.

Well, it 'seems' that i heard that dialysis people arent suppose to drink that but I dont remember why  ???  .. I hope im wrong especially since it seems to be working for you so i hope someone else chimes in here.  What my hubby has been doing RIGHT after dialysis is downing a "Super Whey protein shot by body fortress"  His albumin was low and that is one of the reasons for cramping and the quick return of protien really has helped him.  Also, if you find its going to be a night of cramps, they told us to have a little chicken noodle soup or broth, and a couple crackers.  We havent had to do that since he started with the "shots" though..  Their Cheepest at walmart if you have one of those and much cheeper to buy the box, not seperate tubes.  He likes them a whole lot better than the mix yourself protein. We have also ordered them at walmart.com and it's only 96cents to ship, so still better than anywhere else.

I'm pretty sure Gatorade has sodium, potassium and phosphate in it.. three big 'antis'  :lol;
But hell, if you feel good.. and your bloods are okay.. then i say GO for it  ;D

Gatorade and related sports drinks are to replenish the electrolytes lost during sweating - yes, sodium, potassium, phophates and many others. I'd stay away or it might mess up your bloods for sure!

I'd say that as long as your bloodwork is ok, go for it.  The problem will be if your levels get out of whack because of the gatorade.  I don't like gatorade, so I don't drink it anyway, but I don't cramp either
