My husband is "katonsdad".  He has been in the hospital for almost two weeks.  We received the said news today that his transplanted kindey has shut down.  :'(  He originally was admitted to ICU with symptoms of pneumonia.  He is now in a regular hospital room with horrible pain in his feet.  The doctors have run all kinds of test, trying to figure out what is causing the foot pain.  They have done hemo dialysis five times since he was admitted to the hospital.  He was on dialysis for 3 years prior to receiving a kidney/pancreas transplant in 1999.  Hopefully, he can get listed for a second kidney transplant.  He wants to try CAPD.  He tried it 15 years ago, but kept getting infections every 28 days, so he switched to hemo.  I hope he wont have any problems with CAPD this time.  Perhaps there have been improvements in dialysis over the last 12 years.  He is tired of being in the hospital.  He really wants to come home and get back to work.  He had to explain things to our 10 year-old son today.  We are trying to stay positive.

I'm sorry this happened.  I hope he can get his life re-established soon, regardless of how.

It just sucks to return to dialysis.  I'm glad for the 12 wonderful years, but it is a hard transistion.  I'm not sure about the PD.  Hopefully no scar tissue has developed with all the infections and the surgeries.  But, a lot has changed so wait and see what they say.

I'm sad for you.   :'(
