Provisional date for transplant
«
on:
May 11, 2010, 01:44:02 PM »
The transplant co-ordinator rang us today and told us that we have a date for my transplant.
2nd June!
Three weeks tomorrow!
My darling huband will be giving his kidney to someone in trent and their relative/partner will be giving to someone in london and their relative/partner will be giving to me!
I stillcan't quite believe it's going to happen. I was at work last night (rehearsal for a play) and trying to enthuse the cast, I was so tired when I got home that I could hardly do my set up (I'm on APD)
I truly can't remember what it is like to be well. How does that feel, not to be so tired that youcan barely hold your head up? To be able to eat and drink whatever you want whenever you want?
I'm so looking forward to finding out!!!

Great news! Even 1 1/2 years post transplant I am still quite tired. Not bone tired like before transplant, but just sleepy tired. Some people have this issue, others don't. Don't be surprised if you are still tired. I can be up and doing well and then I crash. SOOOOOOOO happy for you!!!!!

Thanks guys!
This will be my second trnasplant. Had my first when I was 21. It lasted 14 years. I've been 4 years on D this time around. Would like to think that this one will last at least as long as it takes to go on holiday! My hubby and me have never had a holiday, or a honey moon, and our wedding nearly didn't happen because I had peritonitis the night before!
Will keep you all posted!

It's not provisional any more!
Last tests were on Thursday, we're being admitted on Tuesday, and the surgeries are taking place on Wednesday. I haved such a range of emotions, I'm so grateful to the three 'normals' giving up their kidneys so that the 'kidneyless' can have a crack at a normal life. I'm also deeply worried for them and hope they'll be fine. It's such an incredible thing to go through surgery that you don't need so that your loved one can hopefully get off this daily grind of sickness.
I'm also a bit scared. For all the recipients I mean. I hope that everybody's surgeries go well and that we all get to taste a decent spell of wellness.
I'll try and let you all know how it's going. It's great to know that there are other people out ther e who have gone through/ are going through similar expereinces. Makes me feel less alone.
I'll post when I have a kidney! (fingers crossed!)

From a friend of Carla's:
Carla asked me to keep you updated about her transplant. She and her husband Peter were operated on last Wednesday. Peter's kidney went to someone in Nottingham I think and he has recovered well and is at home.
Carla is doing well. She has put on a lot of 'fluid' weight and got a little fluid on her lungs, but she is able to get out of bed and go to the loo, which for her was a major triumph, and progress has been steady and solid. We hope to have her home in a week to ten days if things carry on as they are.
