My Husband, ( the D Patient ) went to see, His regular, M.D., Today, for His Six Month Checkup. Ron has been, Complaining, for Months, about Neck and Shoulder Pain and only Recently, about Heartburn. The DR. seems to think, that He may have Arthritis, in His Neck and is putting Him into PT. He has also Started Him on Tramadol, Three times a Day. I am not Familiar, with this Drug, but after doing some Net Research on it, I see that a commom Side Effect is Drowsiness. Ron already is so Tired and Sleeps so much, I'm a little Concerned, with this Fact. If You have taken this Drug, I would like to know how it effected You.

Tramadol is a common painkiller over here UK .I myself cant take it , they gave it to me when they put my line in my neck and it made me really drowsy and made me sick. Yet my mum who has back pain takes 3 a day ! and they dont have any effect on her ! I think like everything, its what you can tolerate. But they are certainly not for me. I get alot of neck and shoulder pain from sitting in that dammed chair for hours , so maybe thats your hubbys problem? Also the 'heartburn' will probably be Reflux , its quite common. Usually caused by the amount of tablets we take, wearing on our stomach lining. The tablets we have over here for that are Lanzaprazole. Dont let your hubby be fobbed off about the heartburn , it can lead to an ulcer . Talk to the neph about that . :2thumbsup; Your hubby being tired and sleeping alot is very common with kidney failure !

A thing to remember with pain pills is constipation!  Get him started on a natural tea (Smooth Move) or some stool softeners.

Some people can tolerate tramadol whilst others can't. I have been taking that medication (2 sustained release/day) for years  for chronic pain. I can not live without it. However, my sister can't tolerate the drug. She becomes constantly drowsy. When I first tried it, I was a little groggy but that soon passed. As my GP says that if you can handle tramadol it is a wonder drug.
