Jonn, welcome!  I know having to start dialysis must be extremely frightening to you, but you have found an excellent site for info, answers, and especially support.

What happened to your kidneys?  Was it very sudden and unexpected, or have you had chronic kidney disease?  Like others have said, a fistula is an excellent hemodialysis access; however, you should also ask your doctor and/or nurses about the other possibilities - peritoneal dialysis and transplant.

Good luck!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a good cry - more than once or twice.  The emotion is so very normal - face it, confront it and as you go through each phase of this journey, you'll learn to deal with and live with it.  I just keep telling myself that 40 years ago I wouldn't have survived - I would be dead - I'm not - I'm alive, I'm productive and some days I'm even pretty on top of the world.

Be kind to yourself -
