Went to see the orthopedic surgeon today and suprise, suprise I got a giant, to the knee, aircast for my foot (stress fracture).  Here's the icing on the cake.  My insurance, Humana, would not pay for the $100 boot unless I "had surgery".  What a$$holes!  They would pay for a cast, but not the aircast.  WTH?  I paid cash so that I didn't have to be in a hard cast for six weeks.

And when I got there they asked me if I had done an xray or anything.  I said "yes, an MRI" and they asked if I brought the results with me.  "No".  The nurse (yes, that same stupid nurse) at my doctor's office made the appointment and apparently didn't follow through and fax over the MRI results  I called the office and asked them to fax over the results.  They girl said "Deb's not in, would you like her voicemail?"  "NO!  I am at the office now and about to go back with the doctor".  So she put the nurse supervisor on and she said "I'll fax over your insurance information right now".  "I DON'T NEED MY INSURANCE INFORMATION!  I NEED THE MRI RESULTS!!!"   OMG!!!!!!!   :banghead; :banghead; :banghead;

I sure hope Humana will cover therapy!  Or at least bail me out of jail when I go postal on these people!  :D

Sometimes I wonder how some people actually function on a day to day basis.  Other times I can tell right away that they just don't give a $ht care.

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY

Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it

I take it off occasionally when I'm in the house, but the foot does feel much better when I walk in the cast.  If I wear my house shoes or something the pain isn't bad anymore, but barefoot it will start hurting after a short while.  I wish the cast didn't go all the way up to the knee.  I think just an ankle boot would be much more comfortable, don't you think?

It would be more comfy but I think they have to try to stabilize above the ankle as well.  May the time go quickly till it's in the cupboard.  Mine is gathering dust but I'm going to donate it since it's not covered by our health care here.  They sterilize them and pass them on to people who are struggling financially.

That's a great idea.  Mine would have been covered if I had had surgery (so stupid).  Anyway, I'm going to look into donation, as well.  I was going to put it on Craigslist, but didn't think about the sterilization part.  I'll ask around.  Thanks.  I, too, hope the six weeks go by fast.  It is feeling better, but at night when I take it off and walk around either going to the bathroom or letting animals in and out it starts to hurt again.  I don't want to go too fast.

I agree about taking it slow. My mom kept walking on her knee with a loose brace and it didn't heal correctly. She should have the surgery redone but she just limps a little and the pain is always there. Take good care of yourself Kelly! xoxoxo

One positive thing over the aircast is that you can take it off to take a shower which you can't do with a cast that will get real funky especially when it is taken off.

You know Kelly, in the movies and on TV every time there is trouble the
people always have a drink.  But that wouldn't work for those of us who have ESRD.  We would quickly become alcoholics.  Maybe you better stick with the grouchy nurse and the Airlift.  Hope the next 6 weeks fly by
