What's dialysis?

« on: November 07, 2006, 12:08:24 PM »

Hi guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that I`m back from a stay at hospital.  I got an infection through my line and added to that, my nurse blew my fistula the previous week.  So not only could I not move my left arm but I have been laid up in hospital for the last week or so.  The funny thing is, my doc was due to take my line out the week before but he forgot and went home when I had made special arrangements at work to get to the hospital during the Doc`s working hours.

So I`ve had yet more time off work and fortunately they`ve been really good to me.  I`m getting really PISSED OFF with all this dialysis bullshit though.  Everyone tells me that you fit dialysis round your life, well that`s a bloody joke cos it seems to me my life is revolving around dialysis.  Constantly in and out of bloody hospital and then last night they forgot to give me medication through the machine so I had to stay on for another 2hrs after having already been on the machine for 4hrs.  And all the nurses going "smile, cheer up, it could be worse."  I don`t bloody think so!!!

I am beginning to really hate bloody dialysis, too.!  I hate it when they make errors and it costs me MY time and effort!  I feel for you.  I hope you feel better!

Sorry you had to go to the hospital.  What are you using now for dialysis?  Your fistula?

Really sorry to hear about what you had to endure, because of others' thoughtlessness.  Here's a group hug.   :grouphug;  Hope you are feeling much better.  Please keep us posted on how you are doing.

I'm glad you are out of the hospital now, and I know what you mean about everything revolving around dialysis.  Between dialysis sessions, doctors appointments, hospital stays, outpatient procedures, waiting in lines at the pharmacy, hours spent trying to figure out what you can eat...I can tell (from Joe) it's incredibly frustrating.  Hell, it's incredibly frustrating for me, and I'm only an on-looker.

Mattyboy,
  Glad to hear that you are out of the hospital!
  Hope you are feeling better now and that your arm is not in too much pain.
  Thank goodness for the invention of the heating pad. I live with one most of the time.
  Take care,

Hey MattyBoy,

Glad to have you back. I hope your fistula starts working properly and you can get that line out. Dialysis really improves when you can run your fistula at a higher pump speed than a line. Less chance of infection with the fistula.

I had my line in for a year before I had my fistula created and I had 3 infections in the permcath. We are here for you, so feel free to rant.

Cheers

Thanks for all your support guys.  My fistula is going to be used again on Friday (tomorrow) so lets hope we don't have any more upsets.  It's bad enough with the needles anyway without having your fistula blow as well.  If it happens again I shall surely yell at someone! :thumbup;
