...than to have that incompetent nurse at my doctor's office fired.  I have an appointment with my post-transplant doctor on Wed. the 10th.  The last time I talked to to the nurse was when she gave me the results of my last labs (done on the 18th).   She said at that time that she would mail me a lab request for my next appointment on the 10th.  I had every intension of getting my labs drawn this morning, but alas I still have no paperwork.  So yesterday I wake up bright and early (well, early anyway) and I called the office and, of course, had to leave a message for her on her voicemail.  My call was not returned until 5:30 p.m.!  And she says to me "You had your last lab done on the 18th, I don't know if he wants you to do lab again".  Then WHY would I be coming in to see him?  He has absolutely no other reason to see me if not for lab results and to check those results to see what my creatinine is doing since the stent removal.  I'm NOT driving in just for him to tell me my weight and say "hello".  WTH?   :banghead;

I, too, have dealt with hopeless nurses, Kelly. It is the very epitome of frustration. Tell the doctor what is going on - I always did. I think there is a nursing shortage in many places, though, which is why even the most incompetent can still get jobs. Hopefully your area isn't one of those places.

As for labs, get a standing order. There is no reason you should have to chase down this paperwork every month or so.

Good luck.

I'm going to ask about a standing order, Cariad.  That might be helpful!  Hopefully, once we're confident that my kidney is not backing up and my creatinine stays down, I won't need lab so often, but for now it's necessary.  :(

***WARNING***     RETRACTION ALERT!!!!!!

I am embarrassed to say I must retract my recent complaint, or at least 1/2.  While rumaging around my messy desk I found the lab paperwork that she mailed on Jan 21st.
 :shy;

But I'm still mad she never called me back!    :P

San Antonio is one of the places with a HUGE nursing shortage.  Unfortunatly, some places will hire someone in a uniform because they are so short, and just want to have someone to fill a position.  AARRGGHHHHH!!! :banghead;

That's what I feared. About 5 years ago, we had a phone number that had previously belonged to a nursing student. We received several recruiting calls a week for her, and the majority were from places in Texas.

Good luck, Kelly. Paperwork or not, this nurse sounds like she needs to concentrate a bit more on her job.

I need to ask if there is another nurse I can talk to, because obviously this one is quite busy.  Maybe just having a second option would be better.
