Patients and staff have been treated to a musical master class at Morrison Hospital’s Renal Dialysis Unit.
Harpist and music therapist Bethan Hughes played for over an hour, choosing gentle melodies to enhance a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. The patients even joined in singing when Bethan played some familiar Christmas carols.

Bethan, who is also training to be a nurse, said: “Music has a great healing power. After listening people often feel more relaxed and calm; it’s great to use music therapy in any environment.”

A patient who wanted to take up the challenge of strumming a few notes was patient Philippa Stone who has been receiving dialysis for the last three years.

She said: “The treatment is tiring, but all the staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. They have put up the Christmas decorations in the ward and now with the harp playing it is magical.
