This will be me...... Next spring.... I earned it.

« on: September 25, 2009, 01:41:55 PM »

I had my doctor visit today .. this was the first time that I had seen this doctor as my last doctor had retired....  I was very impressed.....   Since I am new to dialysis and I wanted to talk to him about training on the nxstage system and also about the in-center nocturnal...I was expressing my feelings about the benefits of the nocturnal and also about how nxstage is a wonderfull concept because of the ability to travel.... He brought up a wonderfull suggestion..... he said  How about nxstage nocturnal at home....  I was thinking   Wow.. that is exactly what I had in mind ...but I have  been told that my insurance company does not offer that... He said  well we haven't not had anyone do the nxstage nocturnal before but we do have some that are doing nxstage short daily at home... so he ask if I would like to train for nxstage nocturnal at home ... I said  Yes...  and he said that he will get me a  a training date and we will start........ WOW...... COOL.....  I didn't even have to fight, argue, persuade or manipulate.....  It was offered and given......  He even said that doing nxtage nocturnal 5 nights a week would be even better ...... Iam going   YES !!!!!!!!!..... that is what I have learned here on IHD......    So    I am going for it and will keep all of you posted as things develop.....I am very excited.......   This will be a hugh step for not only me  but it may open the door to others in our insurance group to do the same with nxstage.......

That is very encouraging - hopefully whatever your doc has it'll spread.

Hopefully you will be willing to share your experiences so that others will be encouraged to try this as well.

It is great that you have the option of nocturnal with NxStage....kudos to your new nephrologist!! Many centers wont touch nocturnal with NxStage due to the red tape invoved when first setting up the program.
It should not be up to the insurance company that is focused on making a dollar rather than what is best for the individual. Do they not realize that over time there is a good chance it will be saving them money?  More than likely, whoever makes the decisions at the ins company couldnt give you two benefits of nocturnal let alone give an accurate definition. Many nephrologists cant even list the benefits. Way to go whoever your nephrologist is!!!!
