note: we are on re-use of dialyser for 15 use if you consume 15 treatment the dialyser is free

What a bargain these prices are! Here is mine in the U.S. for PD (private insurance):

Charge:                                               Pay
Clinic: US$1050/day                            US$880/day
Neph:  US$35/day                             US$35/day
Lab:    about US$3000/month              US$3000/month
Drugs: about US$3000-4000/month      US$3000-4000/month

It is about 0.4 million dollars a year! My actual cost is probably 1/3 of them, and the rest of them is my in-volunteering "donation" to the medical system.

my neph charges medicare $500 per month and he doesn't bill me for the 20% medicare doesn't pay.

my portion (20%) of clinic charges when i visit my mother is $35 per treatment

i really don't remember what else is on my eob from medicare.

i know my prescreptions have cost over $14,000 this year alone

The bills my mom sees each month for what Davita charges Kaiser Permenente is $44,000.00/month.
This is in center 3 times weekly.  3hrs/visit

Wow, what a difference between Davita and the wonderful non-profit we use, just checked her latest EOB from them and the monthly charge (rounded) was $14,000, they paid $5,000, this includes her Nephrologist's charges

Hubby and I live in Canada - no idea how much things cost.  But we got a shock when we looked on the U.S. Baxter site at some of the "retail" prices listed.

From a NHS report in 2002 for the UK, the average annual cost of treatment is:

Home dialysis:  £19,300 a year = $2,600 a month
Hemodialysis in a satellite unit:  £21,000 a year = $2,800 a month
Hemodialysis in a hospital:   £22,000 a year = $2,900 a month

A patient pays NOTHING.

Also, you have to realise that with our system of the Government paying for it, there are always waiting lists.  I don't know about Canada and England, but just talk to someone here who needs a hip replacement.  They have to wait ages - sometimes years - cos it's not life threatening.

Similar here.

I have no problem paying my tax bills when i understand that for all the rif raff and un deserving sorts that screw with the welfare system, there's folks like me, and people getting heart surgery or cancer treatment or whatever that is of great benefit.

The Government here has ordered 21 million doses of H1N1 vaccine - enough for everyone in the country - and we are allowed to get it free of (extra) charge. It's that sort of thing that I appreciate our system for.

wow hope our system like yours here we pay all the medical expenses by our own pocket, then the goverment have an insurance like Philhealth, iam paying the philhealth monthly the problem is the dialysis is not free treatment still the same amount we are paying, then you will apply for reimbursement for 20% of total amount you paid within the 60 days period of your treatment, the check will come to you 3month after they approve it, sometime they giving us a hard time to claim the check for us they will release 5month after.

Just read this thread...wow!  What a difference there is across the world in the costs.  Hubby is on PD, cycler.  The cost being billed to our insurance and Medicare is about $35,000 per month!

Patients only pay here if they have insurance, and then the insurance company pays.  If someone is visiting and needs dialysis, they have to pay $506 per session, and that includes everything - Epogen, etc.

For my center I am not really sure of the cost. I however have read in a few Nephrology magazines that it cost an average of $100,000 a year for a in-center hemo patient, and about $70,000 a year for a PD patient.
But why the way you guys talk it is much, much more then that!
Wow.
Transplant is much cheaper.
