Dialysis patient appeals to get his truck backArizona's vehicle theft rate is dropping according to the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority. Reports state vehicle thefts dropped 25 percent in 2008. Still, more than 37,000 vehicles were stolen in Arizona last year, and each is a tremendous hassle for victims.
Three times a week for five years Noel Beuckman drove himself to an eastside kidney dialysis center for treatment. He says he needs the treatment to keep himself alive while he waits for a donor kidney.
Then on Sept. 18th, Beuckman had to quit driving himself after somebody stole his pickup truck.
"I couldn't believe someone stole my truck right in front of the dialysis center," says Beuckman.
Beuckman's truck was a 1997 green GMC Sierra that his parents gave to him to help him maintain his independence.
The 41-year-old says along with the truck, the thief took that too.
"I can't go grocery shopping. I can't take my kids to their appointments. My fiancé had to go to the emergency room yesterday and someone had to take her," he said.
Beuckman says his insurance company won't pay anything for the stolen truck for 30 days.
In the meantime, he depends on family and friends for rides.
"I need my independence," he says. "I need that truck back."
He's appealing to the public and the thief to help police find it. He says, "I don't know why you did it. If it was just for a joy ride, you had your fun. Please call somebody and let them know where the truck is so I can get it back."
