Dialysis RN

« on: October 21, 2006, 10:45:09 PM »

I've been lurking here for a while and am really impressed with this site; since I'm a nurse I was initially suspicious - I've seen a few dialysis sites where the worker is always assumed to be the enemy - but this is clearly not the case here.  Congratulations, Epoman, you have created a wonderful site for ESRD patients and their families (and workers too)!

I'm an RN who worked in a dialysis clinic for 5 years before taking time off for personal reasons.  Although there are aspects about the clinic job that I don't miss (especially the early morning hours), I have missed my patients very much.  That's what I liked about chronic/outpatient dialysis: getting to know your patients and seeing how you can (often) make a difference.  Well, it's time to go back to work and guess what I kept thinking about?  I tried to talk myself into checking out other areas of nursing, but kept putting it off.  Because the truth is: nothing else really interests me.  They say that nurses will either love or hate dialysis, nothing in between, and I have to agree.  Then a wonderful opportunity came up: a job in a hospital inpatient/acute dialysis unit.  And I got it!  So this former dialysis nurse will return to the profession soon; I'll even get to see some of my clinic patients (of course, they'll be there because of an access problem or other hospital admission, so it's not a happy occasion for them).

Enough about me.  I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

DeLana   ;D

P.S.  Hmm... how do you turn the machine on???  Just kidding!

DeLana.  It is wonderful that you are going into acute care.  I know when I'm in THE BIG HOUSE I love to see a familiar face.  Glad you found us and I look forward to your perspective on issues presented on this site.

By the way, how did you find out about this site.
Welcome again!
As you know, there used not to be a lot of dialysis sites; I liked Dialysis Online, which has disappeared into cyberspace (?)  I also lurked on Dialysis Ethics occasionally - but found it to be very hostile towards workers, who were all assumed to be bad.  Anyway, their new site seems to have disintegrated as well and I was wondering where everyone had gone (Google is not very helpful there).  But there was one post where someone mentioned this site.  Thank goodness!  Despite the title (since this was on DE, I suspected the worst  ::) I decided to check it out and am glad that I did.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome, I'll be happy to add my  :twocents; where I can.

Welcome, I am the admin and I am glad you came an gave us a chance. I work hard to keep this site the "Premier" Dialysis community for ALL of those effected by Kidney Disease. There is even a section for YOU to rant about us patients. We also have many nurses, techs and doctors as members. Now I just hope you continue to post and visit us often. Again welcome to IHD.
