Ran across the web page, great idea. New to dialysis, Must make decision regarding, which method to use. Right now leaning towards, PD at night. kidney failure took only two months to happen. As my name states, I was looking forward cruising the Caribbean upon retirement, instead, dialysis three time a week for 3.5 hours.

Welcome Landsailor!
Wow, 2 months, that was quick.
You'll find lots of helpful info here to help you decide which method to choose,
and lots of other input. People do take cruises while on dialysis.

Welcome Landsailor, Dont give up hope, especially while on PD, you do have a little more freedom to travel (as long as you take your cycler) but from what i hear it is easier than making arrangements while be on hemo. I do PD myself and i will be taking my first trip to meet Epoman (the founder of this fabulous website)
Lookin' forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to our community. You are very fortunate to have come upon us at this time, just before you go on dialysis. It will be a real help to you. I know this because it was to me.
As for the Caribbean, that is where I am. Feel free to come and have your dialysis here. If you like sailing, you know about the British Virgin Islands and the United States Virgin Islands. I live on the British Virgin Islands. Right now, a lady from Chicago is here on a sailing holiday and she comes to dialysis at our centre. (I told her about the website and she promised to check it out when she returns home)
Barbados has some great private clinics and so does St. Lucia (and they are all much cheaper than the US but with the same care and the same machines) BVI - $500, Barbados $350/300, St. Lucia $300 per session.
There are lots and lots of posts to read that will be a definite help to you, so get reading. And if there is anything not answered, make a post of your own and ask it. We have people from every perspective of this renal challenge, and you are sure to get an answer.
Welcome again.

Welcome, Landsailor! I'm making the same decision you are, which type of dialysis to choose. I started a thread on the peritoneal/hemo decision and I got lots of very good advice. Here it is:

You'll love this site, lot's of good information and very helpful, supportive people.

Hi Landsailor, Actually I though LandSailor must mean you liked motorcycles or something. Now I know better!
You will love this site and Bajanne2000 will be very helpful when it comes to visiting the Caribbean! I too hope to go visit her someday.
Hope you enjoy our site.

Welcome!
There are plenty of posts on here debating the pros and cons of PD vs. Hemo. I'm sure you'll find plenty of info to help with your decision.
You might also want to read a bit of Bill Peckham's blogs on traveling while doing hemo. He's been in dozens of countries and tons of clinics. He also has plenty of info about traveling with the newest kind of hemo machine, a NX Stage. Here's one of his links. . .
