I have been on the cycler for a few weeks now and 5 days ago I woke up during my 3rd dwell time in excruciating pain in my lower back.  This happened for another night so I tell the PD nurse and she changes my fill from 2000ml to 1900ml. It happened again the next night so she changed the fill to 1500ml and 1.5 hrs dwell time and I think 5 exchanges a night. Well it happened again last night and I am in pain all day longnot. When I bypass the dwell and go to drain as the fluid is draining off I can feel the pain going away. MY UF each night has been from 500ml to 700ml.
I am going back to manuals for the weekend. I will see if I wake up in Pain tonight.

Well, I am up in pain lower abdominal and back pain when I drained I had 2000ml and I had filled with 1600ml. I have been draining at least 400ml extra each time I drained this evening. When I am lying down and I have so much in me is when I start to hurt. This just started Monday night what can be the problem?

What concentration are you using? If yoy drop it down to 1.5, does it still happen? I get abdominal pain (though it doesn't extend to my back) when I use a concentration higher than 2.5%. My nephrologist seems to think it might be because the higher concentrations "pull harder" and it might be irritating my peritoneum.

I am using the 2.5% concentration. On occasion I have used the 4.25%, but most of the time the 2.5%. I feel as though something inside me is not right, I will try the 1.5%. I had to wake up and drain 2 times last night the pain was horrible.

It doesnt sound like its either the volume or strength that is causing the pain , it sounds like the fluid might be pressing on something (like a nerve?) as when you drain out it goes away. I dont have any pain like that, but every night as soon as i fill and lie down , i have to keep going to the toilet. During the day when im full i hardly go , so i think the fluid may be resting on my bladder ! One thing that might be causing your pain .. are you constipated? might be worth taking some laxatives anyway to see if that helps ?

It sounds like constipation to me as well.  I take stool softeners morning and night to keep me clear, as I had exactly the pain you describe before I did.  Even if you go regularly, it may not be enough.  Good luck.

I am now on 1500ml fill on the cycler and the pain is not as bad. I wake up around 11 PM and I sit upright and it goes away as I go back to sleep. I am not constipated anymore so maybe that was part of the problem. Maybe I will get used to it.
