Partial Cuff Extrusion

I've recently had problems with my PD catheter exit site. It's been oozing a bit into the dressing, and a culture came back positive for Staph aureus. I've been on Cipro for over a week and it hasn't helped yet; I just got put on rifampin and hopefully that'll do something.

Today at my clinic/doctor visit, they found that I have a "partial cuff extrusion" - part of the first felt cuff of my catheter is visible when you pull back the skin around my exit site a little, and apparently that results in repeated infections. My neph and PD nurse want to let it continue to come out until the first cuff (it's a double cuff) is fully exposed. Then the exit site can reseal itself (I think) and possibly the fully extruded cuff can be removed.

Has anyone else had a partially extruded cuff that was allowed to go on to a fully extruded cuff? I've heard of cuff shaving, but not this.
