Introducing myself......

Hi Everyone!!
I am Joy and was diagnosed 3 months ago with kidney failure. I have read some of the post from a lot of the members and felt "relief" knowing there is such a huge family of people that have gone through this very thing.
I am scheduled for my fistula surgery next Tuesday, to say I am scared to death is an understatement!!
I am married (27 years now) and 3 grown children.
I have a good support system but WOW...what a great group this seems to be here in "I Hate Dialysis's".
I have been through a liver transplant 4 years ago....So one would think I wouldn't be scared but dialysis really worries me. I suppose its the unknown, I sure hope to find some answers to my fears here.
Thank You to the staff for accepting my registration.

Welcome! You will love it here. Good luck with your fistula. Mine was uneventful (the first one, anyway). The 2nd was a month later (first didn't work) and it was a little more complicated. But nothing to be worried about. Good Luck. Check in often.

The day of my fistula surgery was the worst day of my life. I'll be honest...I was sobbing as they put me to sleep. The surgery actually went very well...it was just the idea of it, that knowledge that my life would never be the same again, that I was crossing the Rubicon, [insert other cliches here]. The surgeon wanted me to just have a shoulder block, but when the anesthesiologist told me this, I told him in no uncertain terms that this was the worst day of my whole damn life and I didn't want to remember a bit of it, so you'd better just knock me out completely! And he did! I'm no hero, and I won't pretend to be. So I understand your fear and don't blame you one single bit. And that's the thing about IHD...you can talk about your irrational fears and no one will tell you to stop being so silly...

Welcome Joy!
Try not to be too scared about the fistula surgery - with all you've already been through that will be a doddle and you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about
Hopefully we can help you along this kidney failure journey - it's all so new to you and I'm sure you have many questions - hopefully we can help answer some and alay some fears.

WOW!!!
You ALL made me smile with your warm welcomes!!! Believe me...I will stick right here with you all through this journey. Thank you for your input.
Rerun..I am not on dialysis at this time but my Neph told me "I needed to be prepared" in the event I will need it. He said my "clearance" is about 17. I assume he meant my kidney function?? I have asked him about a transplant verses dialysis. He told me that was an option BUT I still had to have the fistula done.
Richard...I do have so many questions and I will try to keep them under the correct topic.
Again....Thanks to all of you for the warm Welcome!!

Welcome to our community, Joy! We all understand what you are going through. The truth is, the unknown is much harder to deal with than what we already know. But the thing about it is, sometimes when we do face it, we find out we stressed for nothing. I hope this is what will take place for you. I am so glad that you said you will stick with us. We are a great family here
caring and sharing. YOu will soon find that out. Just keep on reading and keep on posting. We are with you for the long haul!
