My name is Pam and my daughter, Sarah was on dialysis and had two transplants. She was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease named Membranoproliferative Glomulernephritis Type 2 when she was six years old, in 1988. During her periods of transplants she attended the 1994, 1996 and 1998 U.S. Transplant Games. She attended Camp Chimer, a summer camp for children on dialysis or who had a transplant. She played softball and table tennis. Sarah and I held a coloring contest while she was in school to promote organ donation. She received her first transplant in 1993 and then another in 2000. The first transplant lasted five years and the last about a year and a half. Sarah passed away Oct.1, 2007.

I joined this site that maybe I can give advice or learn something new I didn't know. From the experiences Sarah had I know dialysis is no picnic and by getting a transplant a person has a better quality life.

Hi Pam,
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I am sure you have a great deal of wisdom and emotions that you can share and I am glad you joined us. I have a daughter who has been dealing with CKD since she was 14 years old. She sometimes hides her head in the sand - I wish she was more active with kidney issues but she has said "Mom, I don't want to be 'Kidney Girl." - so I stay active and learn all I can. She is now 23 years old and 2 years post transplant.
I am sure Sarah was a very special person - and I hope we get to know more about you both.

Admin for IHateDialysis 2008 - 2014, retired.
Jenna is our daughter, bad bladder damaged her kidneys.
Was on in-center hemodialysis 2003-2007.
7 yr transplant lost due to rejection.
She did PD Sept. 2013 - July 2017
Found a swap living donor using social media, friends, family.
New kidney in a paired donation swap July 26, 2017.

Pam, your introduction brought tears to my eyes. I always tear up over transplants, but learning of your loss along with your joining our group as a voice of wisdom took my breath away.

You are a very special person as I am sure your daughter was, too.

Diagnosed Nov 2007 with Multiple Myeloma.
By Jan 2008 was in end stage renal failure and on haemodialysis.
Changed to CAPD in April 2008.  Now on PD with a cycler.  Working very part time - teaching music.  Love it.  Husband is Paul (we're both 46), daughter Molly is 13.

Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Dear Pam,  I am so very sorry. Helping others will honor Sarah and will give others more insight.  We are glad you joined and look forward to learning more about you and Sarah.   We are also here for support and friendships.  No Mother should have to bear the pain you have gone through.   You are among friends   :grouphug;

Pam, you are a good Mother and Sarah was lucky to have you, as I'm sure you feel luck to have had her.  I'm so sorry she went home, but she is in a better place and you will meet again someday.

Well i was reading and had a big ol smile and was happy to hear how Busy Sarah is and so involved in so many things.
Then i got to the end of your post.  I am sorry you lost Sarah so young.  But i am happy she had you as a mother and that you both were so dedicated and busy with your proactive approach to this disease.  Many people hide and pretend it isnt happening.  You can give hope to many people.
