Sometimes it seems that the patient is always last on their list of importance. Help me write the
The Dialysis Workers Creed .
I shall never move quickly , unless it is my time to go home
If at first I don't succeed, I can always stick the needle in again.
I shall aways decide not to decide.
I truly believe that deadlines are not important.
OK , now I need your help to finish writing the creed. It can be about time , money , care or whatever you think.

I don't have to listen to everyone's complaints
To care is not a rule
You do not have to do today that can be done tomorrow....
Why bother .... they are living on borrowed time anyway.

I'll promise to go and get something/ask a question and get straight back to you ..............and then you won't see me again all shift. (Not just dialysis workers but most of the NHS personnel as far as I can see.)

That,s not my job. The heating levels and lighting are for the benefit of the staff. Always forget to pass on requests to the unit manager. Show complete indifference to your patients, just think they are the next cab off the rank. Compassion is expressly forbidden. Ensure your English language skills remain poor. Tell patients they are lucky to receive free and high quality treatment, you would be dead if you came from our home country( India, Thailand, Philippines ) Make sure to tell the patient at every opportunity how s**t your life is, the standard of English improves when moaning. we're switching your schedule - I know you don't mind coming in a 7 am - even though you have to dirve an hour and back
do you really need to know what meds we're giving you? reason? cost? side effects? problem?

I will act with "all deliberate speed" to get you off the machine in any emergency
I will purchase the big gulp drinks to bring to dialysis and drink in front of my patients
immediately after drinking "said" drink, I will bitch about the times I have to urinate
I will do everything in my power to give the patient extra time in the chair

I may only be a nurse but i know far more than you do .
If im in a bad mood , i will take it out on you.
Nurse to patient ..so what if you had a 2 hour wait to see someone , im here till 4 !
Nurse to other nurses ..anyone fancy a coffee?
Yes you can have a glass of water ..in 3 hours time when you have asked me another 4 times.
Side effects ?

Rose I agree as far as NHS general ward care is concerned but I can't contribute to the creed in the case of my dialysis clinic because I have to give the nurses and techs at my clinic 10 out of 10 for nursing skills and patient care. Dare I say it? it's almost a pleasure to go there!! |

I can't contribute to the creed, either. Granted, we only go in to the center once a month now, but we have had the best care.
the folks are profession, caring and best of all, have a great sense of humor!
BTW, it is NOT a Duh-vita center. It is a non-profit center.

DW - to some extent I think you are right - you may get treated how you treat people - yet I've seen just the opposite. I think that dialysis workers are no different than any other profession - you have a certainly percentage of not happy workers or people who are in the wrong profession or just plain nasty people. I had to speak up constantly about jerking around my catheter which was in my neck for goodness sakes. Yet I did speak up and not in a nasty way - just hey - I'm attached to that tube you know. And, more often than naught the worker would say - oh yeah I've been at this so long it is very mechanical and "I forget there is someone at the other end." Direct quote. Back to your reguarly scheduled programming.  |
