 :welcomesign; I'm new here, trying to figure out how to communicate.  I've been on capd since June.  Curious about traveling with all these contraptions.

Hi Gilly,

Welcome to our little community in cyber space.

Traveling is very possible --both on CAPD and hemodialysis.
I don't know about your supply provider, but Baxter ships their CAPD bags almost anywhere you want to go!

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Welcome, Gilly!  My dad is 88 and on hemo.  I am on CAPD- (since June '05)  You will like it here, we are all one big (extended), happy (most of the time...)  family!

The Question on your Poll should be "Is traveling on dialysis hard or easy?".  But, then again that should be in General Dialysis Discussion. This is "introduction"....  Again Welcome.  Please read the Site Rules and Regulations in the Introduction section.

 :thx; you have all made me feel welcome.  I do use Baxter, have a whole garage filled with boxes of dialysis solution.  But traveling seems almost overwhelming.  I travel with my wife of 32 years and two spoiled Yorkies.  Any travel hints would be welcome.

I answered easy since you are on PD because when I was on PD I could travel out of the country to the States sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easily .. but now that I am on Hemo it is impossible without extra medical coverage in other countries  :thumbdown;

While on PD I travelled all the way from Ontario CANADA  on one side of the Great Lakes to the other side to MN USA! I didn't even have to bring ANY supplies as they delivered!!! That was so nice! They even delivered my Cycler machine!! (I was on CCPD)


And Refun is right. Having the poll here encourages us to discuss it here and this is the Introduction thread only .. :(

I will reintroduce myself.  Which is what I was trying to do, not start a "poll".  I'm having trouble navigating this site, be patient.  Thanks for the welcomes, and the info on traveling.   ;)  My name is Lyle, I go by Gilly, I'm new to dialysis, was told 3 years ago I'd be on dialysis soon.  My one kidney died from unknown causes, the other one hung on quite a bit longer than the Dr.'s thought it would.  Yes, I love/hate my cycler.

I am the daughter-in-law of a wonderful 81 year old man in his second year on dialysis. I am the only one in the immediate family with Internet and have been asked to try and find some answers and helpful hints and some "is this normal" stuff, and this seems to be the place.

Yes, this is the site, but you are horning in on Gilly's introduction.   ;)

Please start your own topic in" Introduce Yourself", start over and tell us a little about the situation, where you are from and why your father-in-law lost his kidney function.  Well, 81 years old answers a lot of that question.   :banghead;
