I got the call today to go see the transplant teem and see if I cam git on the transplant list. thy asked that I wright all my questons down and I'm a bit overwhelmed what do I need to ask? Can some of you how have don this give me a hand  thanks Carol

It is an overhelming experience to meet with the different coordinators. I was very emotional when I talked with the social worker. There is a lot of information being thrown at you. Best Wishes for you. :grouphug;

Idaho,
I just had this evaluation on the 25th of March.
In at 8 am out by 2pm.  The time went by fast.  And when i went for my EKG-and bloodwoork (17) vials? they pushed me to the front of the line :thumbup;  what took the longest was the chest Xray.  That was in a different building and they didnt push me to the front.

I have another appt. In Philly in June.  They sent me a TON of paperwork to fill out.  So my point is it seems to change from hospital to hospital.  I hope it all goes smooth for you.  I was honest about everything except one issue.  All i need to complete the first evaluation is a stress test which i will be doing soon.  And maybe i can have all my recent tests from transplant hosptial one sent to Philly and be able to bypass the tests???

Which transplant center are you going to?  I have my first appt next week at the Intermountain Medical Center in SLC.  I'm like you trying to figure out what to ask.  I read the booklet the center sent to me and it is way overwhelming.  There is a lot of information in that booklet.  Well good luck.

Ask what their medication protocol is post tx, meaning which immunosuppressant/anti rejection meds do the prefer to use. Steroid or non steroid. If steroid, then do they taper you off of them.

What is their average stay for their transplant patients? (always plan to stay a little longer though)
This is up to you, but can someone take a picture of my transplant/transplanted kidney
Ask about side effects of the medications, what other medications will they/might use post tx.
Is there any pre tx medications I may need to take? Depends on pre tx work up though.

Just somethings that come to my mind.

Diabetes -  age 7

Neuropathy in legs age 10

Eye impairments and blindness in one eye began in 95, major one during visit to the Indy 500 race of that year
   -glaucoma and surgery for that
     -cataract surgery twice on same eye (2000 - 2002). another one growing in good eye
     - vitrectomy in good eye post tx November 2003, totally blind for 4 months due to complications with meds and infection

Diagnosed with ESRD June 29, 1999
1st Dialysis - July 4, 1999
Last Dialysis - December 2, 2000

Kidney and Pancreas Transplant - December 3, 2000

Cataract Surgery on good eye - June 24, 2009
Knee Surgery 2010
2011/2012 in process of getting a guide dog
Guide Dog Training begins July 2, 2012 in NY
Guide Dog by end of July 2012
Next eye surgery late 2012 or 2013 if I feel like it
Home with Guide dog - July 27, 2012
Knee Surgery #2 - Oct 15, 2012
Eye Surgery - Nov 2012
