Is iit possible that the pain is caused by my IUD and PD Catheter?

My daughter has been in the hospital for most of the past 2 weeks due to excruciating pain during her drain. The catheter was moved from a fold in her intestines. The doctors thought this would take care of her problem, but all it did was reduce the pain from a 10+ to a 7. Another doctor thinks her IUD is a little out of position, so she is going to have it removed. Does anyone know anything about PD & IUD's?

Have they ruled out other possible abdominal problems, such as a hernia or adhesions, or active inflammatory bowel?

Yes.  Several surgeons have looked at her through laprascopy and they are scratching their heads.  She has had an omenectomy, a catheter manipulation, and during the last surgery the cath was moved from a fold in her bowels. they were confident that would take care of the problem.  Her pain is not as intense since this procedure,but it is still strong enough to wake her from a deep sleep. The area where the pain occurs is just above her pelvic bone.

have they looked at her bowel movements, i had great pain with the drains, so they tried *tidal* where only 80 % was drained each time, totally different, however the last drain was v painful and this was caused by not having an empty bowel because when the bowel if full the catheter cannot suck it from behind but the machine still pulls (i presume she is on the cycler ) after taking 12 laxatives a day and 2 drinks of lactulose it was still not shifting so as well as this i take 2 sachets of Movicol and it has helped enormously with the pain but now it alarms when filling - patient slow fills and slow drains, its only been 3 months so at the moment its trial and error.

Wow, I was told PD and IUDs don't mix! I am surprised you have one!

I'm getting an IUD on Monday! I've got heavy bleeding and was told that an IUD would help, no-one told me that it might interfere with my dialysis.....

Hi Carla-

I just had my IUD removed in March, and I don't think you should worry too much about the pain. I found my IUD to be a big stress reliever after I had it in. Having it put in was painful, and the pain lasted for a few days. eventually I gave in and took some Ibuprofen. And I suggest if you do have pain from it to do the same SPARINGLY.  You should be very cautious about infection and STDs, the IUD makes you more vulnerable. IUDs can make you bleed more, but I hope this solves your problem. Having my IUD removed was a grasping attempt at solving another problem. (can read pain and pd post)
