Just sitting here this morning (4:40 am eastern) all the sudden, a knock at my screen door. I looked out, only to see a sparrow who must have gotten stuck on the porch. I remembered an old wives tale I heard about birds trying to get in the house, it means death, needless to say, the door was promptly slammed shut, and now I hate to admit, the knees are knocking, LOL. What a wake up call, damned old wives tales anyways!!!!!

I had African-American kids madder than hell at me for touching their feet with a broom.  They would spit on the broom when ever it touched their feet.

Well, turns out the wives tale must be true. Found out, that, on that day, 1 of the fellow patients from the clinic had passed away. He had been into the hospital for a new access, and, It seems when they removed his old chest port ,he developed a bleed, and the poor fellow bled internally, which they found too late. Sorry to see him go, he was the first person at the clinic who talked to me about what to expect from dialysis, as I had no idea at all. Rest in peace Paul, will miss you.

One of the strangest things that happened to me was about 12 years ago.  For some reason I wasn't tired so stayed up.  I watched TV, read a book, watched TV again then read the book again.  By this time it was just before 2am.  For some reason I was like a cat on hot tiles and just couldn't settle.  It was summer so the window (old-fashioned sash windows) was open by about 3 inches at the bottom.  I heard a fluttering noise and some furious cheeping.  There was a little bird trying to get in the window, then as I stood up it flew away:o  It was dark outside.  I suddenly went cold and decided to beat a hasty retreat to the bedroom.

When I went to work in the morning I learnt that my boss's 10 year old son had been in a road accident with his bike and died in hospital just before 2am.  He was only 10 years old :(

Ya I have heard about birds representing the soul of people who die or something similar ... I would have to look it up again to quote it.

"The Owl called my Name"  was a book by someone. The Indians believed if an owl called you, you were soon to experience death in some way.

One of the African-Caribbean superstitions is that if your foot gets swept by a broom, you would not get married.  Didn't know spitting would help..  Now you tell me.....  >:(
I asked my mother what would happen if you swept the foot of someone who was already married.  "She would slap you!"

I did not know that about the broom.  I always wondered why.  And why jump over the broom at a wedding for African Americans?  Excuse my ignorance.
