This is me Lori , Dustin's mom

« on: April 19, 2007, 01:40:25 PM »

Hello All, :(
My son had surgery on his left wrist for his new fistula. Guess what??? The dang thing failed just like the one is his right wrist!!!! Dustin called me from dialysis all upset. He WILL NOT go back to that same surgeon. At this point Im not sure what we are going to do. Or should I say he is going to do. I have posted in the INtroduce Myself so some of you know me already :).
The center did inform me Dustin was extremely upset yes he was ranting and raving enough that the Social Worker called me.
Dustin has an appointment to see his reg DR. for some antidepressant meds. George you told me when the time came that he wanted to talk about it he would. Well, he did and now we will try and get him some much needed help.
Thanks for letting me vent.

oh honey. Definitely see another surgeon. It may not be him, but at this point Dustin doesn't care, he isn't going to have any faith in this one. I don't blame him for being upset. What did thel ladies expect? OF COURSE he's going to yell!! I would!  Defnitely meds will help. I am on low antdepressants, and they help somewhat. Good luck with the new fistula.

Thanks MyssAnee,
I am mentally drained as a parent. We will find another surgeon. He will not go back to this one.
Thanks for your reply!!

  What terrible luck your son is having, Lori!  Don't blame him a bit for being upset to the point of letting everyone know it.  Must be tough on you also, not an easy thing to watch your child be ill and have surgeries then the outcome being useless...  Thinking of you both.   :grouphug;

I'm so sorry.  I know just how he is feeling.   I'm going through the same thing with a peritoneal catheter.  I will be having my 4th surgery to repair it, but with a different surgeon this time.    It's a very difficult position to be in.  I want to tell all of my doctors to just bugger off, but sadly I need help to stay alive.

I hope a new surgeon is able to help him.     :cuddle;

Sorry to hear it, I hope you all can find a surgeon who can make things work.

I am going in for surgery again next week to repair a blocked graft.  While the doctors could definitely be at fault, I couldn't possibly blame my surgeon for my graft failure.  I have almost non-existant veins and I am not as gentle with it as I should be.  I am not looking forward to another surgery but this time I am really going to try and do my part to keep it working.

I am sorry to hear that Lori, I hope Dustin continues to talk to you about his depression until you are able to find the right meds for him.  God Bless you both...  :cuddle;

i am sorry for your sons failed fistula. Both of them!  It makes you angry when nothing works. Read my intro.  My daughter has had two failed fistulas, 11 permacaths, and several surgeries on her tummy for her PD cath.  Sometimes, I feel like I am losing my religion.  That won't help either of us.  Take good care of yourself, so that you can be there for him.  He needs you more than you will ever know.  There are more of us in this boat than I thought.  Both of you will be in my prayers.

Yeah, people get caught up in reading the posts but need to look at the date it was first posted.

             It's okay we all do it.

                 Well, I don't......it was just my attempt to be nice!             :waving;
