Hello,  friends,

Would you please input your opinions or experiences? Thank you very much.

I have been on dialysis (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night at the clinic from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am) for four years. I go to work every weekday fulltime like a normal person ,  have never been late or left early, and have never even  took one sick day off. Now I have to find a new job. After a tough interview I got an offer but it is conditional on a physical examination and drug test.  How should I do?  Because I am afraid after examination,  I would be turned down. I know this is against ADA. but how can I prove to my new employer that I can "perform the essential functions of the job"?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

You old work history should be able to make them see you are a good employee.
Can you get a letter from your old company?

Also welcome to IHD.

Please feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduction section so we can get to know a little about you.
And hope to see you on many of the threads.

I second what paul.karen said.  Also, during the exam be sure and tell the doctor about what medications you are taking because of your dialysis.  Some meds leave a signature that look like other meds, so be completely upfront.  Best of luck to you in passing your exam and getting your new job.

I had a problem because I don't pee and they wanted a drug test.  They had to take several hunks of hair from my head.  If you are bald I won't tell you where they go!   :o  But, I got the job.... then I got fired later because I'm not a salesman.  If you don't want windows and doors then you don't want windows and doors!!

I would also be upfront with them.  "I've been on Nocturnal Dialysis for 4 years and I do great... never missed a day of work or even been late".  And if you are waiting for a kidney transplant I would tell them that too.

That is none of their business, but I think in the long run they appreciate honesty.
