Does anyone use/have DIRECTV

My cable company AGAIN has removed several stations that i USE to enjoy watching.  I am tired of paying more and getting less.
I would rather pay for the channels i like then to pay so much for Chanel's i NEVER watch.  But they dont allow such a clever plan.

So i have heard when it snows the dish doesnt get reception, or during bad storms.  This is what has kept me in the past from making the switch.

I just got another flyer in my local paper saying go direct get TWICE as many HD channels.

So to anyone who uses DirectV.  Does the reception often go out?  Or ever.?

  I've got DTV...have had it for about 10 years.  Yes....some storms make reception go out.  Heavy rain with fog will make it break up.  Snow bothers, but only if its heavy and sticks to the dish.  Some folks around here opted to have their "dish" placed near the ground so snow can be removed, thus solving the problem.  I didnt know any better, mine is on the roof.  I would guess that over the course of a year...I am without tv maybe.....40 hours.  With the rain as soon as the heaviest of the storms pass things come right back. Snow though.....I wait for it to melt or a big wind!

I'm with you PK. Our cable bill just went up again and there is nothing on any channel worth watching. We have also considered Direct TV or Verizon so I'll be waiting to see the input here. Thanks for asking the question.

We have DirectTV and occasionally lose signal due to bad weather, but if you have items saved on your DVR you can just watch those while the dish is out.

My oldest son had direct TV for about 12 years and last week switched to Time Warner due to losing channels and I switched to TW from Dish.  I had Dish for years and really enjoyed it and the Dish DVR but Windstream, the phone company kept screwing up the bill so I switched everything. The only time I had trouble with Dish was in heavy snows in TN and then all I did was use a broom and sweep off the sensor on the Dish and kept watching TV.

I love my TV set up with Direct TV. No outages not matter how big the wind is around here and does it blow sometimes!

Here is my input on Direct TV

Hubby and I decided to try it, and this
darn "village  " where we live will not let
you putit on the roof.

The installer put it on a pole next to our house keep in
mind this was in February

Along came Spring, with the Robins, and also the leaves
beginning to bloom on the tree next to the dish

As the leaves began to bud and then open, we started losing
the picture a little at a time 

When the dish guy came back after 7eral calls, he charges us
to move the damn dish

About a week later, the same thing - we had enough and were
very glad to go back to cable

About 1 month after Direct tried sent us a bill for $450 - saying we
broke the contract with them

Hubby took care of it after a lot of back and forth - got a statement
showing zero balance -

If you guys are gonna try it I advise to be careful where they put the
damn thing

We've had DISH network for about 13 years. We have lost signal a few times. My husband does all the installation work and pointing the dish himself. Right now the dish is ice covered so we lost signal. I would send him up to get the ice of, but I don't have enough life insurance on him. I don't remember losing a signal this way before. We live far enough in the country that cable is not an option.

My  DirecTV is adding channels all the time (not to mention the Free channel weekends - this last weekend was free HBO and Cinimax).  I have never had them cancel channels on me (at least not channels that I watch regularly, so maybe I just didn't notice).  When I had Time Warner Cable it seemed like every month it went up a dollar or more, but I never got any new channels.  I did not like TW cable.

We have it right now -- will not when our hurricane roomates move out. It's never been down and I get all the channels I want!
